Claudio Amighetti began studying violin making in 1969 under the guidance of Maestro Pietro Sgarabotto, with whom he collaborated for four years. He went on to specialise in restoration in workshops in France and the United States. Later, he opened his own workshop in his native city of Cremona, where he currently resides. He taught restoration of bowed string instruments at the International School of Violin Making in Cremona for 40 years (1977-2017). He has been a scientific committee member at various violin making exhibitions, and has held conferences and seminars in many parts of the world, including Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Finland, France, Guatemala, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland and Venezuela.
